Spirituality and Mission in Context

Termin: 8.-11. Januar 2020

Certified Open Lecture

Christian mission began on the day of Pentecost. The Holy Spirit is the Lord of mission. In consequence, mission is a spiritual matter. Wo ever considers mission will have to discuss spirituality. Spirituality is what ignites transformation and change.

In this course we will discuss the theological foundations and practice of missional spirituality in the context of postmodernity. How does spirituality transcend Christian life in times of both: an enormous interest of society in spirituality on the one hand and strict rejection of churchly religiosity on the other? How does one evangelize and build a church in a context of post-Christendom and religious and cultural diversity? In this course we will creatively discuss answers.

Subjects: theological foundations, the new religious quest, patchwork spirituality, holistic spirituality, integral spirituality, missional spirituality of the church, the reconciliation matrix, markers of good practice in missional spirituality, the spiritual church in mission
